How Periodic Service Protects Your Warranty

How Periodic Service Protects Your Warranty

What you need to know about service intervals, documentation and the fixed-price service package.

"Will my warranty be void?" crosses the mind of every driver when a periodic service falls due. The short answer: the warranty stays valid as long as services are carried out at the manufacturer's intervals and to its standards. The details matter, though.

Mileage or time, whichever comes first

On Solvia models, periodic service is done every 15,000 km or once a year, whichever comes first. Even for rarely used cars the annual service should not be skipped, because oil and brake fluid lose their chemical properties over time. On commercial vehicles the interval is 30,000 km.

Is an authorised workshop mandatory?

Regulations restrict tying the warranty solely to servicing at an authorised workshop; an independent garage may also service the car. However, the work must be done with oil that meets the manufacturer's specifications and genuine or equivalent approved parts, and it must be provable with invoices and records. Servicing at an authorised workshop makes this documentation automatic and keeps the car's service history in the system, which makes a difference to resale value.

What is done in a service?

  • Engine oil and oil filter change
  • Replacement of air, pollen and, where needed, fuel filters
  • Check of brake pads, discs and brake fluid
  • Check of suspension, joints and tyres
  • Battery, lighting and wiper test
  • Electronic fault-code scan and software updates

Recalls and software updates

When you come in for service, we check whether there is an open recall or software update for your car. These are free and important for safety.

The advantage of a fixed-price service package

The three-year / 45,000 km fixed-price service package we offer new-car buyers keeps inflation from raising maintenance costs and lets you plan your budget in advance. Within the package, labour and periodic parts are fixed at the upfront price.

Three common mistakes

  • Postponing service until the mileage is reached: if the annual period has passed, service is due even when mileage is low.
  • Changing only the oil: brake fluid, the pollen filter and coolant are also renewed at set intervals.
  • Not keeping invoices: a regular service history can raise a car's resale value by 3-5%.

To avoid these mistakes, simply sign up for our service reminders; the date and mileage of your next service are notified to you automatically.

Service history and resale value

Regular authorised-service records give buyers confidence on the used-car market. Mileage verification and service-history lookups are now a standard part of many appraisal processes. A car with complete service records usually sells faster and at a higher price than comparable ones.
